The Brewer calls Brownstone an Imperial Brown Ale, as it's an 8.5% ABV.
I'd call it a coffee brown ale, with a bumped up alcohol level.
Appearance is ho-hum, a medium dark brown, with no particular head to speak of. The smell and the taste are mostly coffee. The roasted malts are muted, which I guess is appropriate for the style. There's not much hoppiness, maybe just a bit. The ABV is not particularly noticeable.
If you like coffee beers, this is a pretty good one. But as an "Imperial Ale", it's a little underwhelming.
