Visited around 5:00 PM on a Monday. There was a party of maybe 20-25 doctors from the nearby children's hospital which made it unusually busy and loud, I think.

Staff was very friendly, very knowledgeable, happy to talk about their beer, proud of their beer. 24 taps with styles all over the place. I had a rauchbier and a rye IPA; the rye IPA was pretty good and the rauchbier was really good.

Location is small. Seemed like more outdoor seating than indoor. Most of the brewing is in a separate room from the seating, though they do have barrels aging around the seating, too.

I moved into the area as this brewery opened. It has been a blessing. Great space, amazing beer, and I love having a local watering hole. The Troll Tarer beer is my go-to.

Burke-Gilman Brewing is a small neighborhood brewery, located on NE 45th, right on the edge of Laurelhurst, not far from Children's Hospital.

The taproom has several booths and a bunch of tables. It holds maybe 50-75 people in a clean, bright modern attractive space. They offer 15 of their own beers on tap, and about 4 ciders. The folks there seemed quite pleasant. Parking in the area can be a little difficult, but it's not too bad. The one beer I had was pretty good.

I really wanted to like Burke Gilman ... small neighborhood joint, interesting beers. The problem is the noise. OR I SHOULD SAY, THE NOISE! You can't communicate in the taproom without raising your voice a lot. Yesterday evening, the place was about 2/3 full. There was no music playing. And I couldn't hear a companion who was only about 5 feet away from me. The people I was with gave up trying to talk to each other. That's just flat out unpleasant.

I've been in a lot of noisy bars, but this is much the worst I've ever seen. There's something about the acoustics of the place that amplifies every conversation, creating a cacophony. These guys need to get some acoustic baffling, hang a few curtains, or do something. Otherwise, I can't recommend going in there if there's much of a crowd at all, or unless you bring your earplugs.
