Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown with little light transmission in the glass and a one finger khaki head with great retention and nice lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt with slight char, milk chocolate, mild coffee and a little vanilla. Flavor is dark toasted malt with moderate char, milk chocolate, light molasses and rich coffee. Mocha finish with residual char and a slight hop kick. Medium bodied with moderate silky creaminess. Well, I was very impressed with Burke Gilman's Black is Beautiful (an excellent recipe) and didn't know what to expect from Fyodor, which has been their standard big stout. Well, they obviously know what they are doing; this is excellent. Everything I hope for in a RIS: great body, rich malt, chocolate and coffee character. Full of flavor from start to finish and beyond. I'll be getting this again. Glad they are canning some now.
