Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing opaque black in the glass with a fine, one finger dark khaki head with great retention and nice lacing. Aroma of dark toasted and dry biscuit malt, milk chocolate and a touch of vanilla; inviting. Flavor follows with dark toasted malt with a touch of biscuit and good char, dark and milk chocolate, vanilla and a little coffee. Coffee, light char and lots of chocolate in the finish. Medium bodied with moderate creaminess and nice silky mouth feel. Well, I'm impressed. I've been meaning to check out Burke-Gilman,whose location I ironically rode by for over 20 years bicycling to work, but before they opened. They certainly would have been a growler stop on my way home if it wasn't before their time. I've been meaning to check them out and am glad they canned this stout so I had a chance. This is a very well made stout with an excellent creamy mouthfeel that is much like an oatmeal stout, which this resembles in flavor too. The malt is somewhat subdued, but well balanced in toastiness, char and biscuit. Great chocolatly aroma and aftertaste. My favorite Black is Beautiful variant so far, but just got two more, so I'm jazzed. I will definitely be checking out more from this brewery.
