Poured into a small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing opaque black in the glass with a thin khaki head that dissipates to a film with slight lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, molasses, cocoa, maple syrup and a little coffee. Flavor follows with dark toasted malt with light char, coffee, maple syrup, light cocoa; dark toasted malt with some dry caramel in the finish. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. The new batch of Burke-Gilman barreled stouts has arrived, so this is a good time to check out the ones from last year, which should have profited from a year of aging. This one is a solid Russian imperial stout with deep malt and light charring and a very nice overall flavor from the maple syrup, which is authentic and cheering through out the taste and leaves a pleasant, lingering aftertaste. Light additional notes of cocoa and coffee, primarily the latter. Once again, a really top class barreled stout from these guys. I've really been pleased with all their big stouts and very impressed with this very limited once a year set of Russkies. They are also very nicely presented with exotic Russian city names and a classy matching embossed wax dip and label color for each one. Kudos to the brewery.
