Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing nearly opaque black in the glass with a one finger khaki head with great retention and nice lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, whiskey, cocoa and woody oak. Flavor is dark toasted malt with light char, whiskey, oak, dark molasses, fudge and bakers chocolate. Hot finish with whisky burn with residual dark malt and chocolate. Medium bodied with moderate creaminess. This is the biggest stout I've had from Burke-Gilman at 17% and it shows. This bottle is 6 months old and I'm glad I let it rest a bit. Great barrel character with both oak and forward whiskey notes. Body is solid and full flavored, as I'd expect from a Russian imperial stout. The double barreling appears to have upped the oakiness a bit as well as concentrating the flavors. Might be a little unbalanced on the whiskey side, but the base fully supports the boozy hit. I like whiskey/bourbon in my stouts and this delivers. A big, hot, but robust barreled stout and one of the most intense from this brewery. Nicely done. Definitely getting another of these for a year's rest.
