Nearly no off-white head. Very dark, caramel and auburn, with a little chestnut highlights, for the look. Sweet, spiced rum, medium dark toasted caramel malt, provides the aroma. Sweet, a little sharp, caramel, rum raisin and woody flavors, with a little licorice and a somewhat thick viscosity. There is some confusion with all these flavors here.

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pour a dark orange red with a half finger khaki head with great retention and slippery solid lacing. Aroma of dry caramel malt, plums, raisins and rum. Flavor follows, with dry caramel malt, raisins, dried and fresh plums, red grape skins and rum. Rum and dried fruit finish; a bit boozy. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. Like the barreled stout I from Burke Gilman that I had last night, the barrel is the start here; in this case rum. Good quad dark fruit base, but everything soaked in rum. Both dried and fresh fruit flavors. Quads are a natural for rum barrel aging and I'm surprised that more breweries don't try it. Warming and flavorful.
