Poured into a Gulden Draak tulip. Pours a slightly brownish orange with a one finger white head with good retention and light lacing. Aroma of caramel malt, apple, stone fruit and cherry with a touch of port. Flavor is caramel malt, green apple, fortified wine and hints of stone fruit. Flavor thins out into a Belgian pale ale character with a little port barrel. Medium bodied with light creaminess and sharp carbonation. There is some Belgian character here, but this starts somewhat dubbel oriented, but ends with a lighter, Belgian pale ale profile. Very little whiskey from the barrel, but some clear fortified wine notes. Flavorful, but not a traditional dubbel and the finish with green apple flavors is unexpected. An interesting Belgian leaning ale with moderate barrel character. Fairly mellow overall.
