Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very brownish red with little light transmission in the glass and a two finger khaki head with good retention and slippery, solid lacing. Aroma of candi and caramel malt, peach brandy and a hint of biscuit. Flavor follows with candi and dry caramel malt, peach brandy, hints of dark dried fruit and a little phenolic character in the finish. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. An interesting and solid barleywine that has bright, peach brandy character; more brandy than a fresh peach. However, there is an odd phenol note that is very similar to the tart, densely flavored flavor that I associate with slightly under-ripe peach skin. Although not expected, it adds to the authenticity of the fruit. Although closest to an English barleywine base, the normal dark fruit notes are subsumed into the barrel flavors, although the base malt supports the peach flavor quite nicely. I liked this quite a bit; a nice, unusual barleywine. These guys are doing great in their annual barreled beer output. Kudos.
