Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a reddish mahogany brown with little light transmission in the glass and a one finger light khaki head with good retention and slippery, solid lacing. Aroma of dry caramel malt, dates, raisins and light whiskey. Flavor dry caramel malt, dates, dried plums, raisins and whisky Medium bodied with moderate creaminess. A nice English style barleywine with mild, but clear whisky notes. Quite traditional tasting. I liked the previous year's brandy barrel version; this one is not as novel, but well done and enjoyable. I guess this is the swansong big brew for brewer Julia Davis; I hope they continue to make new big stouts and barleywines.

Poured at fridge temp. Pours a very dark brown with minimal head. The nose is fantastic. Dark fruit, molasses, figs, dates, toffee, bourbon, and vanilla.

The taste is soooo good. The barrels hits a bit harder here, and it's great. Wonderful flavors of vanilla ice cream, toffee, bourbon, figs, maple, cinnamon bun, slight walnut taste, and some oak. Slight bitterness comes through, but the sweetness dominates. It's not even close to being too sweet - just a perfect level.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a wonderful bourbon-soaked toffee aftertaste. Lovely beer.
