Pinball Wizard pours into my glass a hazy, milky pink color. The color somehow reminds me of grapefruit juice. Head is dense, very light pink and has some decent retention.
Taking a sniff shows me a very fruit forward aroma. There's an up front tartness that definitely reminds me of raspberries. Somehow I also get a strong grapefruit presence. Admittedly this makes for a very ripe, very enticingly juicy aroma.
Ripe, fresh fruit lead the flavor with just a little up front sweetness, giving a moment's balance. Fruit flavors give a nicely assertive tartness, starting off with hints of raspberry before giving us more assertive notes of grapefruit. Pinball Wizard's mouthfeel make me thing real fruit juice is used in this beer rather than synthetic beer flavoring. Flavors of grapefruit juice add a really good refreshing quality before fading into the distance.
It's ripe, full flavored, and rich in fresh fruit character. I even like the presence of grapefruit in this beer. My only real complaint is that raspberry seems to take a back seat to everything else here. Which is disappointing given that this is supposed to be a raspberry sour.
