far and away the best beer they had on tap when we visited last week, but that really isnt saying much at this point, as these guys still have a lot of work to do in the brew house. this is a sour beer with some local botanicals and aged in tequila barrels of all things. hard not to be impressed by the ambitious nature of it, brassy golden with a little white head on it served in a wine glass. who knows why it is this strong, especially for warm weather season, but the booze is gripping with the acidity in here, they seem to exacerbate each other a little past where i would draw the line of desirability. the botanicals are cool, and so is the tequila barrels, earthy and a little metallic with the funkiness, natural agave character, sturdy newer oak, and a serious magnitude to it, a little floral to lighten it a bit, and a note of honey sweetness from the grain as well. this isnt way off, and the odd recipe and barrel treatment excuse some of the weirdness, but in the context of the rest of their beers right now it seems more like a (somewhat) happy accident than any real brilliant bit of alchemy. unique to say the very least...
