(first sampled in 4 oz pour as part of flight, soon after ordered full pour, served in stemmed pilsner glass)
Advertised on menu as German-style ale brewed with German malts and yeast, featuring Huell Melon and Hallertauer Mittelfruh hops. Was told it was similar to a Kolsch.
Pale yellow in color, but with mild-moderate haziness reflects a mild jade-green highlight; kept a frothy collar... Delicate grainy malt and grassy/floral hops prominent on the nose, as well as unmistakable note of melon from hops; fermentation and esters seem dialed in quite well... Malt foundation is subtle but solid, with some light breadiness (maybe enhanced by sediment) and a tiny touch of sweetness in its flavors; perhaps a background note of apple along with the melon; what brings it all together is the top-to-bottom, stealth-fully pungent thread of grassy, herbal/floral noble hops cutting through the middle, their bitterness softly shocking the tongue, leaving a green tea-like essence and bitterness... light enough, clean enough, refreshing and not too filling - wouldn't mind having a brilliantly-bright version with which to compare...
Fantastic brew. Glad to have crossed paths. Exactly what I'd been seeking all day, could drink it all day, capped the session off nicely. This may be what ultimately warrants a return visit to Vinyl. Keep it flowing!
