375ml bottle with a fancy label and silver wax. This is perhaps the thickest wax that I have come up against.
Appearance: Thick, dark black, no head produced from a hard pour. Substantial booze legs.
Smell: Huge vanilla. Huge coconut. Huge macadamia nuts. Little hint of chocolate. Little bit of barrel.
Taste: Starts off with a milk chocolate note and then goes into blended flavors of vanilla, coconut, and macadamia nuts. Hint of barrel, but I wanted more barrel to be here. It's honestly what makes the difference between a 4.25 score and the 4.5 score in the Taste score. Adjuncts are really well done here.
Mouthfeel: Thick. Full blown pastry stout for sure. Full bodied and low carbonation. It's pretty sweet and suffers in the drinkability category because of this factor.
Overall: This is my first ever beer from The Eight State. This is Pastry bliss. The adjuncts are very well done; authentic tasting and good balance too. Too sweet for my tastes and a bold barrel presence would have really taken this beer to the next level. I bought this bottle at the brewery last week for approximately $40 before tax. Fun for a first time splurge, but I am not going to continue paying those prices for a 375ml bottle that did not blow my mind.
