No bottling date (released on 9/18/21, so presumably bottled within a few days of that date); consumed on 12/5/21
Pours a viscous, oily purple/blackberry jam hue, sitting in the glass like a rich port and holding no retentive foam whatsoever; what little head appears fades before any layer of substance can form, leaving only the liquid sitting in the glass.
Aroma opens to fresh wild berries with an underlying graham cracker heft, bursting with accents of rum punch and highlights of passionfruit over the middle; subtle vanilla becomes more noticeable into the back end, while a resounding blueberry wine overtone takes hold into the close.
Taste brings passionfruit smoothie sporting light vanilla upfront, with hints of oak on the back end yielding to a richer, pulpier blueberry as wispy rum esters influence the overall profile and wildberry jam offers an almost juicy sweetness to the finish.
Mouthfeel shows a medium-full body with no perceptible carbonation though relentlessly consistent in texture over the mid-palate, building a mildly tannic and vaguely tart character into the back end as splintery textures of oak underlie a slick juiciness through the closing impressions.
Not particularly clever, though enjoyably indulgent, an attempt at pastry-fying a wild ale finds only minute distinctions from a kettle sour, presenting jammy notes evened with some drying oak though carried largely through slick textures and deftly integrated graham cracker sweetness; in a vacuum, a tasty dessert, but as a beer it greatly overpromises.
