Sadly, great mouthfeel cannot save this beer review...

Appearance> Lively, pale brown. Head dissipates slowly, no lacing.

Smell> honey, wheat. Nothing amazing, but nothing offensive.

Taste> Not complex. A one note sally, and that note sings to the taste of :SWEET.

Mouf> Grrrreat. Really. Why is the rest of it so not great? And why are so many other VB beers so bad at the mouthfeel? Oh, what a conundrum.

Drinkability> I could drink it, but I'd rather not.

I must say, I usually appreciate Valley Brews offerings, however their 15th Anniversary Traditional Bock was not up to their usual standard of fine beer. The main issue which I found was a cloying, cherry flavored sweetness which seemed to stick to the back of my throat. However, the appearance was nice and it certainly had a pleasant enough smell. Unfourtinatley, due to the excessive sweetness, the drinkability was not at all good.

On tap at Valley Brewing on 7/15/09.

A - Medium amber body with lively carbonation and slim off-white head that quickly dispersed into a patchy veil, yielding virtually no lacing at all.

S - Soda-like aroma with some vanilla sweetness and sugary sweet malts suggesting caramel and toffee. Slight waft of alcohol in the back.

T - Extremely sweet bock with a prevalent sugary character and plenty of caramel and toffee notes. Hint of floral and herbal hops in the backend, but quite faint overall. There is also a bit of a medicinal quality akin to light cough syrup.

M - Light to medium bodied with a light syrupy texture and lively carbonation. Finish is sweet with subtle hop bitterness on the palate.

D - I found this to be a little too sweet ultimately, although there was a decent hop presence. With that said, it was my least favorite of the few beers we had here. Happy 15th anniversary!
