Pours bright happy looking yellow gold, slightly hazy. Moderate head settles to a thin ring, minimal lace. Appetizing juicy hops on the nose alongside sweet malt. Notably fruity to taste, fresh apples. Also tasty grain. Nice spritzy carbonation complements the juicy mouthfeel you typically get with a kolsch, makes it more lively not so heavy handed. This is a tasty, well balanced brew. Enjoyable.

Tallboy from the LCBO; dated Aug 20 2020 and served slightly chilled.
Pours a bright, sunny golden-yellow colour, kicking up less than one finger of loose, bubbly white foam that fizzles off within about sixty seconds. It doesn't leave behind much - just a sickly thin collar and some faint wisps on the surface. Very clean on the nose - I'm getting grainy pale malts and bready sweetness, with fainter touches of wheat, apple skin and grassy hay.
It's a fine lagered ale - simple and pretty clean, with a grainy flavour profile that includes hints of apple and bready sweetness at first, followed by suggestions of floral, grassy hops and very mild bitterness towards the finish. Lingering doughy sweetness into the aftertaste that fades to off-dry after a moment or so. Light in body, with moderate carbonation levels that briskly brush against the tongue, giving this kölsch-style ale a fairly crisp, refreshing mouthfeel that is appropriate for the style. It's something that I could probably drink en masse, but that's hardly unusual for this type of beer.
Final Grade: 3.70, an acceptable B grade. Catapult's Kölsch-Style Lagered Ale isn't anything to write home about, but if you're looking for a clean-tasting, properly brewed lager-like beer then you could do far worse here in Ontario. Not something to go out of your way for, but worth trying if it's there - I'll drink it again at some point, but I'm more likely to reach for something like Gaffel, or perhaps Publican's Pub House Ale if I'm going domestic.
