another cool beer in this wasted loaf series where they take old bread ends and loaves and mash them into a beer. they are calling this one purple haze, as its also brewed with the egyptian purple malt, and even though it doesnt color the beer much, it adds at least as much flavor as i got from it in the braggot they did with the same malt. i love the actual bread being in it, i got some amount of their actual hearth fire on the beer, and thats pretty cool in something more or less pale. there is a little honey sweetness in this too, a very fresh baked sense about it, and somewhat more yeast character than i got from most of their other beers, complimentary and also bready, maybe mildly english as it presents itself, and clean fermenting overall. some raw nuttiness to it, wet soil, protein, light wood even, and that small of rising dough. its cool beer, maybe one of their most flavorful, slightly hoppy too here actually, with a little bitterness coming on late and sticking around. maybe a touch filling and starchy comparatively, but excellent stuff and such a cool concept for a beer. these guys are making some of the most special and unique beers in spokane, and i cant wait to go back! i think they rotate pretty frequently, so get in and try this one before its gone!
