Appearance: Poured with a finger of head that did not lace or retain, the body is a deep brown, and probably the darkest Vienna lager's I've seen. It's not quite dunkel territory, but it's certain on the darker side.
Smell: Toffee malt with touches of berry and maybe a bit of biscuit. Potency is ok, but even after warming doesn't really come out as much as I'd like.
Taste: Rich toffee malt with a slight berry touch that then offers a second biscuity kick before the exact right amount of earthy hops cleans up the experience.
Mouthfeel: Aftertaste is mild biscuit malt and a touch of earth, but it's mostly incredibly clean and is only really noticeable by the end of the beer. Transitioning is solid but not a long journey. As a hint of dryness in the aftertaste that keeps you drinking.
Drinkability: Medium bodied, but on the heavier side but not by much which is the odd thing about this beer. I'd expect a beer with this much roast and body to have a bit more complexity. It goes does and settles well enough, just a bit heavier then I expected.
Final Thoughts: It's a pretty solid Vienna lager, but nothing I'd go out of my way for, which sadly, is very much the case for many and Goderich. I'd have it again, if I saw it in the LCBO but I can't see that happening anytime soon. Still, if you are in the area, you could certainly do worse.
