Appearance: Certainly has a nice amber hue with some crimson highlights. Poured with a finger of head and did produce some minor lacing but didn't retain very well.
Smell: I am certainly getting ginger and maybe a bit of caramel malt, but it's very subdued, even after warming up. It's also not like a sweet gingerbread kind of of ginger, it's more like powdered ginger, which isn't bad, but doesn't quite mesh with what they seem to be going for here. Nothing bad though.
Taste: Dry ginger certainly permeates the beer, it starts behind some caramel malt and builds and his a crescendo before some hops try to cut though it, but they are smothered by the ginger that carries over into the aftertaste. The issue here is it's not spicy ginger, or sweet gingerbread ginger, it's full on dry powdered ginger in beer form. More Christmas, less ginger is what I would like to see here.
Mouthfeel: Unsurprisingly, dry ginger continues into the aftertaste. It's so dry it's actively hindering wanting more. The carbonation is solid, and the build up of ginger is smooth but it needs some kind of contrasting note here.
Drinkability: It settles down well enough and the only time I would want to drink this is if I was pairing it with something that really works with ginger but didn't have it present, which certainly doesn't apply to most fare I'd expect as Christmas.
Final Thoughts: I don't think you want to brand this as a Christmas beer without seriously somehow upping the sweetness in some way. I think if you branded it Dry Ginger Brown Ale or something along those lines, it may fare better, but it's just so dry.
