From the 12 oz bottle in a snifter whilst out and about with Bluejacket, Laura, and
the Little Lady. This solid little black IPA pours a dark blackish brown with a decent
head of khaki foam that settles to a thin ring, dusty layer, and shows some nice
light lacing. Nose of dark cocoa, dark coffee hints, and juicy piney hops. Flavors
surpass the nose with a great presentation of dark cocoa, dark coffee touches,
pine heavy hops, rich char, and light caramel and anise. Nice mouth feel; medium
body, medium light carbonation that is nicely soft, and a bitter malt and pine hop
forward finish.

Overall, a lighter bodied version of an old favorite from Rogue--Whale Ale as well
as their classic Mogul Ale.

A solid Black IPA experience!

Cheers

12 ounce bottle, no dating that I noticed on there. Brutaltruth got me a bottle of this one when we stopped at the brewery last weekend, cheers! Served in a pint glass, the beer pours dark brown/black with about an inch or so light tan head. Head retention and lacing are both good. The brew smells like roasted malt, cocoa, pine and light citrusy hops. Taste is similar to the aroma, but there's also the addition of some light herbal/floral hop flavors noticeable too. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it's slick and easy to drink with a good amount of carbonation. This one is definitely worth trying. When I tried their other brews there last weekend I liked everything I had there so if you're ever in the area make sure to stop in!
