Southern Yankee usually has this on Nitro, and so I avoid it. Though this batch is on CO2, and is a bit heavier, at 7% ABV.
A: Pours a dark, nearly opaque black color. A tan head forms with good retention, and plenty of lace left behind.
S: A simple malty aroma that works well. Toasted bread, light coffee and chocolate. All the stout characteristics, without being overly roasted.
T: Oh yeah, again the malts area excellent. Toasted and baked bread, with just a hint of coffee. The chocolate flavors are surprisingly nuanced. As it goes from a light sweetness, to biter sweet bakers chocolate. Lingering bitterness helps balance everything out.
M/O: A full body with moderate carbonation. This becomes ultra smooth. Though it doesn't finish as dry as I would like, it is still very easy to to drink and come back to.
On CO2, as all beers should be, this is an excellent stout. The ABV is a bit high for a traditional Irish Stout, and is closer, but still not exactly at the Export Stout range. So its a tweener. Regardless, this is very nice. If I see this more often, and its not on Nitro, I will be getting again.
