glad to have these guys selling beer in boise, but i am still yet to truly be blown away by any of their beer. i was excited to see a saison from them, the first i have seen in this style space, but this was relatively unimpressive, not a bad beer, just generic, overly estery, lacking any rustic grain or yeast character, and for being a self proclaimed tip of the cap to dupont, i had much higher hopes for some of that character making its way into this, especially on the fermentation side, but it is not to be. frothy tall white head looks on point for the style, the pale straw color too, not real cloudy or anything. the nose on this is on the edge of being phenolic, i get things like green banana, white pepper, lemon wood polish, and taffy, its weird, its done too warm it seems, and it takes over. so yeah, this is fermentation driven, but it lacks any kind of funk, any kind of old world nuance, and it just sort of seems like they stressed out a familiar strain. its not bad, i like the white wine notes and the citrus candy fruitiness this has, but its all a little much. slightly herbal on the back end from noble hops i think which is nice, and the carbonation is most excellent, so there are some elements to like, but the grain is really basic, pils malt forward to me rather than wheat, and the yeast is unexciting and taken a little too far i reckon. not my type of saison, wanted more from this, but also not awful beer or anything, still summery and pretty light to drink on. jury is still out on boss rambler for me...
