On tap at brewery:
Dark brown body, tan head, thick creamy ring, much lacing.
Roasted malt stout notes, with the bitterness of the dark malt coming through. Bitter coffee, charred wood and the hint of smokiness that comes with it. Only lightest hint of lactose as it warms.
That lactose also takes a little while to become noticeable in the front of the beer. Until it does, this is a nice regular stout. Once it does, the bitter char notes fade to be replaced by the light sweetness of the adjunct. The back end holds a bit of the roasted malt charm, but it is subdued a bit.
Not quite as smooth and creamy as I expected, but the body is boosted to just above medium with a light stickiness after a few sips.
This works fir me as the lactose is obvious without trying to dominate the beer. There’s an added sweetness, but it it doesn’t wipe away the stout side of milk stout.
