Poured from the bottle into a branded tulip/snifter goblet like glass.
Good solid forming dark stout here. Two finger light tan colored head, with a very creamy look to it. Fills the glass nicely and slowly settles to a thick collar, slightly laced as well with a good thin top. Dark bodied, classic opaque, nearly black but not quite getting there. Real nice looking stout. There's also just a hint of rising carbonation.
Simple aroma. Nice touches of charred like malt, flirts with ash like aroma on the nose just a bit. Strangely biscuity smelling, perhaps because of the odd addition of a certain ingredient, but doesn't come off like a pastry stout so much. Just good not mind blowing or really exotic either.
Palate has some interesting surprises. The first is a real impressive mouthfeel, rich, thick, bold and coating. With that I was expecting more of a diverse and great flavor but came with some other angles. Quite bitter note, hitting hot medicinal pine somewhat in flavor on first sip. Sharp dark malt flavor, with a hop bite of dark chocolate and just a hint of cream. Very spicy pepper black finish of char and dark malts on the aftertaste also.
Doesn't come off like a pastry stout so much, but as a good solid stout on it's own. Runs a bit hot on the hops strangely, and less so on the added sweetener ingredient.
