Thanks to Pinz412 for this one, from his NBS BIF #13 box. 16oz can (no date) poured into 12oz goblet. Poured a solid, stout-like black with just under a half-inch of light tan head that had very good retention and no lacing.
The aroma had the expected sweet malts of the style, and had some stone fruit scents like a Dubbel.
Similar on the tongue, but the fruit aspects were reduced, and the malts much more dominant.
The body was the full of the style, smooth, and had a somewhat sticky-sweet finish.
Drinkability was good, but this is a sipper, not a quaffer, for sure.
Overall, a solid and enjoyable, although slightly atypical, example of the style. certainly worth trying if you see it.

Pours a translucent copper with a finger of off-white/tan head. Head retention isn't good. Aroma is roasty, toasty, nutty and caramely malts with a dash of spicy hops. A little caramel sweetness, but not much. Flavor profile is toasty, caramely, nutty, bready malts with toffee, raisins and fig over the top. Big sweetness without much bitterness to counter. Mouth feel is medium in thickness, mostly due to the still effervescence and lack of texture. Overall, sweet and big, but the still consistently dulls it out a little.
