Bought from Beermiscuous Lincoln Park, my main source for Chicagoland crafters. Poured into my stange.

Being a traditionalist, I've always liked how the Cologne region decided they were going to innovate the lager and use a fruitier yeast. So leave it to American micros to take the experiment ever higher. In this case, adding the tangerine is a bit outside of range of tolerance. But, IL Fortunato gets away with it because it is refreshing on a day with a heat Index of 100 and I just came in from that.

For Looks, I much prefer a classic kolsch. Smells have the allure of tart tangerines. Tastes are reasonably balanced, given how fruity this is. In my mouth, medium; yet soft and bubbly at the same time, probably an achievement.

My first from Whiskey Hill, I went on their website and UnTappd's. WH specializes in fruity beers (4 of the 5 most rated on UT.) Fortunato is among the Top 10 and has been around for almost three years. WH opened a taproom with bar food and Salerno pizza. And it occurred to me that fruited drinks pair well with fatty foods (which I avoid at my age.) Nonetheless, I wish WH well. And a fruity Prost !

Served from the can in a Lagunitas mason jar.

Get it? The "IL" is the abbreviation for Illinois! I see what they did there. Anyway, this stuff pours a hazy sunset brass-amber topped by a finger of lightly off-white foam. The nose comprises spicy mandarin orange, light grapefruit zest, a hint of oregano (...I think...?...), and a touch of black pepper. The taste is more toned down and palatable, leading with some tangerine and leading into some soft cracked wheat and ruby red grapefruit zest. The body is a light medium, with a rather light moderate carbonation and a liquid feel. Overall, not the best iteration of a kolsch I've had, but it's not offensive in any real way.
