I must confess I bought this primarily so I could keep the beautiful can artwork.
16 oz can acclimated to 49°F and poured into a tulip glass.
Pours very hazy, super light orange, looks just like diluted orange juice. Produces a 1 finger white head, dissipating almost immediately and leaving little very short lived lacing.
Initial aroma is a big hit of freshly cut grass, almost reminds me of that odd wet and grey smell/taste of celery or bitter melon, strange. This is backed by melon (may not have noticed, but it's listed in the description), seemingly honeydew, and some lemon. Hops are present, maybe herby? I also notice an earthy/airiness that reminds me of damp fallen leaves. After agitating I notice a clear alcohol come forward, accompanied by heavy lemon.
Initial taste before swallowing is strongly bitter, in a stinging fashion. I get melon and lemon, and a moderate alcohol burn after a moment.
After swallowing I first notice dry and sharp bitterness, which becomes an almost smouldering sensation and taste, lasting into the aftertaste. Lemon and melon are present, as is substantial pine. There is malt and malt sweetness to be found, as well as grapefruit, like you would expect from a hazy IPA, at the point of tasting grapefruit I'm realizing it may have been either grapefruit or general citrus I smelled and tasted the whole time. I notice a slight medical alcohol note, and something seems somewhat artificial, not enough to dissuade me, though enough to keep me slightly weary. As I let it sit I get strong notes of grass and what I can best describe as dew/damp grass. Getting further in I notice grapefruit and maltiness intensifying.
Mouthfeel is ridiculously smooth. I always find hazy IPAs to be juicy but this one is crazy. When it goes down, it really glides effortlessly.
Overall it's impressive. It's not entirely my favorite taste but I find it to be impressive still. Some very interesting notes in the smell and taste, and a tremendous mouthfeel.
May buy again, double IPA is not really the style I choose to drink often, but I did like this one. Not likely, but a definite possibility.
