It pours a deep cola color with substantial red tinting. Good 3/4 inch brown fluffy head that falls a bit quick leaving a thin but good area as an island with a solid ring. Clings just a bit.
Ok...smell is smoke and maple. Smoke dominates, and the maple peeks out as kind of a sweet note. Not noticing anything as far as hops go except for some earthiness. Maple and smoke own this show.
The taste brings more of the porter base into play - roast malts, caramel/toffee and a very light kiss of coffee and chocolate. The smoke and maple are strong and try to take over but they don't. There's more like an overall flavor going on where everybody gets a turn but ends up as part of the whole. Slightly sweet overall. Earthy. Cola or Dr. Pepper like flavor - just a bit. A very slight char on the end.
The feel is a little creamy and very smooth. Nicely carbonated. Smoke and maple carry into the aftertaste that lingers a while.
Overall - I like it. Smoke and maple dominate but don't overpower - its an interesting flavor. Faiirly sweet, clean smoke flavor
