Was lucky enough to find a single of these for sale at Total Warm. 1st review of this beer on BA.
Pours the ol' familiar golden yellow, light cloudiness to the beer, standard 1/2" white head. The aroma is largely mute/mild, there is a feint hint of lager yeast and pilsner malt to it. Hops didn't really come through although not really looking for them in a pilsner aroma wise so much, but when you stroke Moteuka hops, you expect to smell them moreso.
Taste is decent, neither bad nor exceptional, again, light pilsner malt, light lager yeast. I guess compared to their purported hoppy beers, this is an improvement. Has a light hop presence, more bittering than the usual floral hop taste and mouth feel. Carbonation is aight, could be higher but isn't problematic. I would say its a tad breadier/maltier than normal, might be some more 2 row than normal relative to the pilsner/specialty malt, again not problematic, just an observation.
So I dunno, sometimes they call it German, sometimes Czech, but the Moteuka "should" make this an American pilsner, but it doesn't stray that far from its humble origins in the old country. Would bang again.
