a tasty and well made rye bock, a style we dont see much of, pretty neat cooler fermented (or so it seems) basic bock, single bock, whatever, with a decent heap of rye malt, deeply earthy and spicy rather than sweet as these can be, i feel it as well as taste it on my tongue, it kind of permeates, and i love its long smooth body, its relative dryness for the style, and its subtle complexity, real enjoyable pour here. amber colored, medium shine, darker edges, and an almost nitro looking three quarters of an inch of off white foam, looks great. the nose is leather and raisin and brown sugar before the rye, which has a rye bread thing going on, baked and hearty, appropriately wintery. hints of apple in the flavor, dried and sweet for a flash, definite date and fig character too, enough to balance the intense rye, i like how bold they were with it. the yeast profile is subtle but its definitely an old world lager strain which gives this some proper german charm, mellow as it is. a little meaty in the feel, fuller and long, with the rye spice permeating, but its also really well carbonated to it stays in motion. subtle coffee and even cocoa later, hearty and warming without being boozy or strong, artisitically crafted, a nice recipe!
