weird one here, a barrel aged pale wheat beer fermented with brett, and apparently at one time it was either brewed with or garnished with boba balls, like from the tea, but that was not part of my experience with it at the brewery. the brett is there in this and its funky, but its kind of accidental and stinky and not as developed or refined as i was hoping for, but i knew this was somewhat of a risk when i ordered it, and i got through the pint no problems. its a little bit tart, its tannic from the barrel, its oxidized and a little stale smelling and tasting on the grain side, but i like it being as light and simple as it is in terms of just being wheat based with maybe a little pils malt in the mix. it has definite chardonnay character in the nose, wine barrels likely, some dishrag weirdness to this, lightly metallic, and definitely past its moment, but hey, there is brett in it! this just seems really unrefined, but i like it being as light as it is, i like the funk running way out in front of the light acidity, the carbonation is there, and i think the barrel treatment is agreeable with the ferment and the residual minerality, there are just some details to iron out and clean up if they do this again, and it has me curious about the boba element, not sure that would add anything desirable to it, but im intrigued anyway. good brett beer is my muse, brett beer like this is always disappointing, but i appreciate them doing something this ambitious, and maybe it was better when it first came out...
