"Apple Streus-ale" brewed with apple and cinnamon. Poured from a can into an Upland tulip. The pour is murky and dark brown - like a glass of unfiltered cider. It sports a two-finger head of rocky off-white foam with good retention. On the nose I get apples, cinnamon, brown sugar, and some toasted malt.
Medium body with a creamy feel and a delightful fruity flavor. Bready malty notes up front with a hint of honey and graininess, then a wonderful blend of baked apples, cinnamon, and brown sugar. It really does taste a little bit like an apple dessert. On the finish the baked apple and cinnamon seem to linger a bit along with just a faint kiss of hops.
I have only visited Sonder a few times, but they always seem to have some off-the-wall beer with a unique flavor that defies categorization. Last time I was there, I had a beer called "Carmen's Carrot Cake" - and it was a game changer. This time, it was this beer. Yes, it's a fruit beer, but it doesn't taste like juice or cider. It tastes like a beer that tastes like an apple cobbler (if that makes sense).
