Named after Melbourne's famous laneways, our crisp German-style lager has a gentle bitter finish and is super refreshing.

My first from Stomping Ground, so I went on their website. Good guys. They are restoring brewing to what was a brew center in the late 19th brewing in this Melbourne neighborhood. They do training for asylum seekers and brew sustainably. They have three taprooms. And are only seven years old. Quite accomplished. For all this, I give them very good Overall Hugs.

And I liked Laneway Lager. Some of this is circumstance, as I was eating Indian food and Helles is my new go-to style to calm my palate from Indian spices. But Laneway is a good lager for the heat of this climate also. Refreshing. Both Looks (could use a lasting foam) and Smells (mostly malt) are barely above normal for the style. But Tastes are balanced and clean with mild hops that don't interfere with what the Indian spices are doing. For a lighter beer, medium-mouthed with sufficient bubbles. And so soft !

I will seek SG out again. And if I don't have time, I still might catch them at the Melbourne airport.

Purchased at First Choice Liquor in Waurn Ponds in January 2023. Drunk in June that year.

L: Weak, watery yellow with a pretty, pillowy, white head. Heaps of carbonation.

S: Mild, biscuity malt with a touch of earthy hops. Very clean.

T: Largely follows the nose. Base body is sweet and the moderate bitterness countenances it well.

M: Mouthfeel is quite full. Carbonation and carbonic prickle are mild. Suits the beer well.

O: This is a nice, uncomplicated lager well worth consideration by the macro drinker looking for an introduction to craft beer, or the craft beer nerd looking for a rest for their fatigued palate.

Cheers!

Brewed in Melbourne and named after the famous laneways therein, this lager is a German Helles style of which I am always keen to try.

Slightly hazy and straw coloured on the pour with a full head. Aromas of bready malt and faint hops. Very little else to describe really, which is not necessarily a bad thing at all.
Along with the theme above, the flavours here have a bit of a simplicity to them. There are some earthy notes with grain and malt. The beer has a smoothness to it all giving a crisp and dry finish. Little bitterness with very little in the aftertaste at all.
I could easily have a 6 pack of this in the fridge, and just as easily polish them off in an evening.
Cheers
