Had on standard CO2 draft at the brewery.
Appearance is almost black, but held up to light it is a dark dark reddish brown with no haze. On arrival a 1 finger extremely fine khaki head was present that receded to a thin covering and ring around the glass that leaves nice lacing.
Aroma has some bright English yeasty esters that mingles with the roasty chocolate hops to make the raisin bread aroma they mention on their tap board. Hops are barely noticeable, but they are there but only for bittering.
Taste follows the aroma but is bitter and roasty before anything else. The esters are present but much more repressed making an actual rasin sugar toast flavor, without butter obviously. The hops are mostly English, but I pick up a bit of American hops brightening things up just a touch.
Feel is heavy, but smooth, and feels like an oatmeal stout should. A bit more attenuated and dry than sam smith's oatmeal stout but the finish on this just doesn't let this feel like a dry stout. The finish is long roasty and actually becomes a bit mouthcoatingly malty on the very finish.
Overall this is a good example of a highly attenuated and a bit hoppy craft oatmeal stout. Not traditionally English, but it fits in the style and throws a nice craft twist on everything.
