Pint can poured into a logoed snifter at the brewery. Proud foam, black brew. 2024 version clocks in at 11.5% ABV.
Nose is pure whiskey.
Taste is like licking the inside of a spent barrel. Dry dark chocolate follows, with some char, the way way dark roasted malt follows. The barreling is the star here, and the base Stout stands up to it, more evident as the beer warms. A sipper, for sure. Cascade and Columbus hops round out the experience in the lengthy finish.
Mouthfeel is medium, barrel killed any density. Mid carbonation.
Overall, this 2023 International Beer Awards Silver Medallist is a good quality treat. Gonna put 1 away for a year. Bet it’ll be killer!

What'd ya kill jesse farr, whad'ya keell jessee farr?
16 oz can from Rick into Crane snifter.
No date, acquired mid-2020.
Pours a deep dark black with a creamy beige head of 1/2 finger. Spotty lacing.
Aroma of really wet sappy bourbon barrel with added elements of tobacco, fig, dark fruits, red wine, vanilla, and dark chocolate.
Flavor brings whiskey that cuts like a knife, bringing sharp one-noted Canadian whiskey right off the bat. This initially disappointed me, but it does develop quite a bit the more it sits on the palate, lending to some caramel cookie, dark chocolate, coffee malt, and a hint of toffee. The more it warms the more it turns to dark fruit/molasses.
Feel is mildly carbonated, medium bodied, and hides its alcohol incredibly well. The burn sits below the surface and only really appears after the swallow. Dries out a little bit, but is more sticky than dry.
Overall, an above-average barrel aged stout. I'd put this on par with most BA stouts you could find, and perhaps just a rung below Bourbon County. Definitely give it a shot if you see it.
Would trade for again : sure why not
