a unique and masterfully well crafted loosely german pils, brewed with spelt and aged in an oak foeder, so sick! had to get this, so glad i did, its as good as just about anything ive had from these guys, which is saying a lot, they are so especially good at the lagers! sexy golden pour, impressive clarity, especially considering the wood element, and several inches of shaving cream thick white head, peaky and beautiful, majorly hurried carbonation, this looks awesome. the nose here is subtle on the wood, lighter on the hops but certainly fresh to me, the spelt gives it a sort of saison element, wood too i guess, and this hits like a lager saison hybrid, which is a rad little gender to bend, im into it! some spiciness from noble hops, some dry cereal pils malt character, light funk way back, subtle vanilla and white florals to the oak, light tannins there too, and all of this comes through in the taste, complex but cohesive, not quite like anything ive had before, but also insanely drinkable, even refreshing for a wood aged beer, that element is just an accent, doesnt heavy this even the littlest bit, crazy. subtle clover, carrot flowers, and sweet herbal character, but this is dry overall, and the speedy carbonation quickens the whole thing. love the lager yeast, the mineral profile, the wet concrete thing it has going in the middle, even the way it warms up, but really its a drinker. tons of nuance but still fully appreciable as a pils, thats what it is. i like the little bit of structure and earthiness from the spelt, sneakily the star of this, and the wood wrinkle is cool, technical mastery overall, creative too, just virtuosic.
