First appearing in William Shakespeare's Twelfth Night, the phrase "Cakes and Ale" roughly means the good things of life. What a perfect name for our English Strong Bitter! While wielding an assertive bitterness, this beer is extremely drinkable thanks to its distinctly complex malt profile. Toasty and nutty bread flavors and aromas complemented by notes of caramel and toffee all rounded out by a slight fruitiness from the yeast.
Malts: UK Pale, UK Dark Crystal, Crystal 60L, CaraPils
Hops: Magnum, East Kent Goldings

On-tap at brewery:

Pours copper to amber with a thin white head. Rings of lacing stick.

The smell is of caramel, earthy hop note. Light toast.

The taste is of caramel and earthy hops. Touch of toast in the finish.

Very smooth. Easy-to-drink. Excellent example of the style. Wish they had it on cask!
