The Spittin Chiclets crew is excited to announce Big Deal Brewing. The Original is a golden ale, brewed to be smooth and crushable but with a lot of flavor. It’s the perfect beer to grab when you’re watching a game.

Pours a beautiful dark gold with a decent head and medium carbonation. The nose is of musky wheat. At first the taste is quite good but the lingering aftertaste, although complex, isn’t really pleasant. Not for me.

Clear darker gold for style, huge head that fizzles out over time, dotted lacing. Smell and taste are the same: grassy hop accent the grain and malt base. In the nose the grain is more emphasized, the taste the sweet and doughy malt, found the nose to be better balanced overall. Feel is actually much cleaner and crisper than expected, a bit fizzy on the finish, but honestly not bad at all. Good job Biz, you made a pretty decent beer in the end here

473 mL can from the LCBO; coded Mar 10 2023 and served slightly chilled. My can is nearly identical to the one pictured, except the "brewed by Labatt" mark is replaced with a Spittin' Chiclets logo. Brewed in Rochester, NY.

Pours a bright, clear golden colour, with more than an inch of smooth, foamy white head rising to the surface; it lasts for about five minutes, steadily reduced to a generous collar and filmy cap. A quarter-inch ring of lace is also left behind - looks good so far. It smells of grainy, bready malts and honey, with hints of spicy hops.

A nicely balanced blonde ale. I'm getting bready malts and grains, with subtle suggestions of lemony citrus leading into a moderately hoppy tail end. Herbal and a bit spicy, with grainy, bready malts re-gaining the initiative at the finish; bittersweet aftertaste that lingers for a moment. Light in body, with moderate carbonation that adds some bite to this golden ale's smooth mouthfeel; it's crisp and refreshing, with excellent drinkability.

Final Grade: 3.67, an acceptable B grade. Big Deal's Original Golden Ale is a darn decent blonde: the first thing it reminded me of was Labatt 50, although this is certainly a little more hop forward (and a better beer in general). I wouldn't call this an amazing or even particularly memorable blonde ale, but it's pretty good for the style and worth a try if you're seeking a lighter brew that doesn't skimp on the flavour.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a clear golden color with a puffy head of white foam. The head has a moderate level of retention, fading slowly over time and leaving a bit of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma is heaviest of a bready and sweeter caramel smell mixed with aromas of corn and a bit of doughiness.
Taste – The taste starts with a light grainy and bready flavor mixed with a bit of caramel and dough. Along with these flavors comes notes of a light herbal hop and a touch of toastiness. As the tastes moves forward, there is a touch of corn and yeast that join in, leaving one with a rather pleasant and slightly sweet taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is medium in thickness and creaminess with a moderate carbonation level. For the tastes and the style the feel is good and makes for an easy and more session like sipper.
Overall – A rather easy drinking golden ale. Nice for a summer sessioning.

Honestly it’s pretty dang good. I know Ryan Whitney and he would not even give an hoot about this beer or know how to gauge it. But it’s solid. Kinda darker than I’d expect, and the nose ain’t much. Ur the flavor and feel count most and those are both tasty. Some weird after taste in a good way kinda complex.

Clear deep gold, with light white head that leaves a few spots of lacing. A pretty beer, that invites drinking.

Smell is honey, lightly toasted grain, and a hint of hop spiciness.

Taste is similar to aroma, but drier. Light, but noticeable, lingering bitterness.

Feel is where this is a a bit of a letdown, at least on the front end. Starts out a bit watery, and almost flat. It does pick up a bit just before finish with some light , very, very fine, sharp carbonation bite, before falling flat again at the end. Tried it straight out of the can too, which was a very slight improvement.

Overall, this had promise, but fell short at the end. It needs more &/or better carbonation. If not for that I might go back for more. As-is, .....nope.

Nicely transparent mid bronze color with a foamy 3F off white head that collapses in a minute or so. Some lacing.

Nose offers up a bit of buttery corn for some reason along with just a hint of malty grain. Nose is rather weak.

Taste is caramel toasted malt, some dusty yeast, and a good dose of simple bitter hops that almost convey a wood barrel note. The hops are not piney or citrus, more like a whiff of thymol. Overall taste is a bit tangy but not in a citrus way, almost a woody alcohol way but this is low abv.

Mouthfeel is really nice with medium smooth and slick body with a good amount of effervescence in each sip. A crisp and dry finish due to the hops. A touch of cloying thickness at the back of the throat but not to concerning.

I like this beer. It seems a lot dryer and woody bitter than other golden ales I have tried but it fits when you want a dry refreshing beer on the less thin and less sweet side

Appearance: Pours a completely clear, deep and rich golden color with a massive white head. SRM of 12. (4.25)

Aroma: Moderate aromas of pale malts, earthy honey and bread malts.

Flavor: Strong flavors of floral honey upfront. Behind the floral hops it evolves into a rich bread and earthy honey flavor. smooth and Malty. Mildly sweet.

Feel: Medium to heavier bodied, average carbonation. Bready, rich, and mostly smooth.

Overall: Didn't expect a whole lot from this one, but a really nice blonde. Mild floral hops, smooth honey flavors predominate. Rich, not too sweet or cloying, and extremely smooth. Very nicely done and much better than expected. (Rating: 4.01)
