an excellent coffee stout here, well integrated java, sturdy base beer, maybe some oats in it, creamy and enriched feeling, a tad sweeter than i like for session drinking, but the flavors are great, and it was cool to check out their seattle spot with the homies! matte luster, near black but with some reddish edges in the right light, a creamy tan head on it with good retention and frothy lace as it drinks down, a real softness of texture too despite some liveliness as well as some acidity from the coffee on the back end, it doesnt break down the smoothness. the aroma and flavor are dark roasted coffee first and foremost, like the low end and the bitterness is more of the java than from roasted barley, which is a cool place for this to be, and there is a nice layering of other malt character, molasses and maple, cocoa and brownie batter, some almost caramel sweetness in the dead center, more balanced later but it definitely runs a bit sugary anyway, which does balance the roast and the acid of the coffee. creamy feeling, must be some oats in this, light smoke, raisin, and char. fuller body for its lower alcohol, well made and wintery, recommended. good coffee but also not exotic or overly high end to me, unpretentious, beer for drinking.
