a neat foeder lager here, slightly funky, but crisp still, a little acidity, but real drinkable, young in terms of wildness, but mature in terms of the lagering, an enjoyable, mellow, and ambitious beer from these guys, and something i wish we saw more of in american craft brewing, lagers done in wood like this. its oak forward, slightly maltier than their hoppy pils, and has a doughy rawness to the lager yeast that comes through whatever it picked up in the foeder, i like all the yeast character in a beer that is also so well refined. some light lemon notes, an herbal bitterness from the hops is present, and subtle vanilla and oddly even apple notes to this, somehow autumnal without maybe trying to be, but it seems right for this time of year. nice carbonation, dryness, and subtle complexity, i wonder how long it was on the wood for. its cool to have a lightly funky beer like this thats still obviously a lager when you drink it, this was really solid overall. i liked all the funky stuff from these guys, in fact i liked pretty much all their beer that we had. so glad this place is finally open and doing their thing! clever lager here, get some!
