This rare style of Hefeweizen was brewed together with our friends from Working Draft Beer Company in Madison. A small addition of beechwood smoked malt adds delicate wisps of smokiness to the notes of sweet malt, banana, and clove.

Served on tap at the brewery in an elegant Hefe glass.
Look: Golden-orange with a 1” head that lingered long and left abundant very finely-bubbled lacing.
Nose: Clove, wheat bread, light banana and light smokiness.
Mouthfeel: Medium, smooth, adequate carbonation.
Attack: Follows the nose, with a bit more of the banana and light smokiness. As it warms, the flavor depth increases rather dramatically.
Finish: Just enough slight bitterness to balance the attack.
Overall: This is the first Rauchweizen I can remember ever having, and it’s as good a Hefeweizen as I’ve ever had. It smells great, and tastes wonderful. Very drinkable. While I sometimes think of enjoying a Hefe at closer to refrig temperatures, the flavor of this one gets even better as it warms. I first tasted this in a flight (it’s our first — but not our last — time at this brewery), and knew I had to order a full pour. Nice work, Full Mile!
