473 mL can from the LCBO; no canning date and served barely chilled.

Pours a clear medium golden colour, with just over an inch of rocky, foamy white head situated atop. It sizzles off within a couple of minutes, leaving behind a patchy cap and a generous collar of creamy suds, with good lace deposition. Bready malts, doughy sweetness and a touch of caramel on the nose, with hints of earthy, herbal hops.

It's pretty good. Sturdy malt backbone of grainy cereals and bready malts, with just a touch of honeyed sweetness; these flavours are joined by grassy, herbal hops and earthy bitterness on the back end. Slightly malty conclusion that fades to off-dry. Light in body, with restrained carbonation that brushes softly against the surface of the tongue, resulting in a very smooth mouthfeel; excellent drinkability, too.

Final Grade: 3.81, a B+. Solid but unspectacular, Midtown's Pilsner is a beer that I could see myself drinking on a regular basis. Not quite as good as some of my preferred imports, but it's at least in the same ballpark - substituting this in for my usual Budvar or Bitburger wouldn't phase me in the least. Drinks more like a Czech pils IMO, but the brewery doesn't specify one way or the other, so it's not worth quibbling over. Pilsner fans should consider this Ontario pils worth seeking out for themselves.
