All American ingredients were selected for this patriotic brew. Cascade, Loral, Warrior, and El Dorado were selected for the hops. The combination of these hops creates an approachable floral, fruity, and earthy flavor and aroma. American Crystal malts add a depth of color and flavor to this amber hued beer.

As the menu states, this is a beautiful clear amber beer the color of a medium honey with a vision of copper pennies shining from behind. A school of tiny bubbles is near mesmerizing and keeps the head full and foamy. Lacing is like the silhouette of a LeperJim doodle, with strange figures arising from the surface. A truly stunning beer.

The nose is the only let down in this beer - I’m just not getting much. There’s a wet leaf and earthy impression as the background. Some unripe stone fruit and a light candied orange seem to seep through. Just fairly weak overall, but not unpleasant.

When cold, this beer has a nice dichotomy. The toasted malt lines an earthy path through the classic pine forest of American hops. Warmth brings memories of the stone fruit from the nose, and about as light. A bit of citrus pith starts to act as a buffer and conduit to the piney finish, and near the end the candied orange that may be from the El Dorado starts to sneak through. As such, the pine fades to the background a tad during this reverie, but is still the driving force on the bittering side. That malt presence helps your navigation through the bitterness.

A sneaky bitter beer that reminds me of good West Coast pales - taking the “more bitter than balanced” fork in the road, but not going full bore IPA. Medium heft at best, the myriad of bubbles do not attack the palate at all.

This is a very solid APA, the scene it paints is a warm reminiscence of yesteryear, and I really hope they consider making this a regular in their rotation.
