Hoppy Wheat - A Privy Council collab with Christine Cox, this complex beer has quite a bit of layers. Pilsen was selected as the base malt with white wheat and flaked wheat rounding out the grain bill. Conan Vermont IPA yeast was selected to play with the unique hops in this brew. Australian Summer, New Zealand Wakatau, US Cashmere, and German Callista were blended together for the kettle additions and dry hop. Grapefruit zest, lemon zest, and sweet orange peel were also added to the boil to help bolster the fruit presence.

Revisit about a month later:
This beer is a style bender, I think.
Initial: A beer with wheat and “new school” hops, I think it’s bending towards a Maine Beer-like IPA.
Revisit: an interesting brew where the wheat character shares stage with sweet citrus hops.
Initial: Medium haze translucent body with a head that falls to a thick ring without providing much lacing.
Revisit: A little less hazy, much better lacing; etched glass.
Initial: A wheat-heavy nose, more grain than bread, with citrus accents.
Revisit: Orange seltzer comes out to play with the wheat.
Initial: Taste also has the wheat shining, with an interesting yeasty bread note before it bounces into the orange-leaning fruity middle. A balancing bitterness has a pithy side, but it includes the zest and some straggling pulp.
Revisit: wheat is a bit more prominent and shares stage with hops, including a hint of that banana-like flavor in back.
Initial: A soft mouthfeel isn’t a surprise on this orange-accented slightly hoppy wheat beer.
Revisit: not nearly as soft, actually a little spritzer-like carbonation feel, though the edges are still soft.
Interesting how the wheat has come on as the hops have faded slightly. I still enjoy this slightly odd beer.
