Our first barrel aged recipe. We selected Buffalo Trace barrels fresh from the distillery and filled within two days of arrival. An English Porter base was used with a smooth chocolaty profile to patiently condition with the wood and bourbon barrel to develop a lovely flavor and aroma. Velvety smooth, a lovely bourbon aroma, and a whisper of wood, everything has come together after just over three months of aging. A touch of heat and tang on the back end work with the sweet porter base to make this beer a delicious sipper.

A-Pours a very dark color with a slight head and lacing
A-Aroma had slight chocolate hints
T-The taste follows the nose with slight chocolate flavor
M-A light bodied lightly carbonated beer
O-A decent Porter, I would have said good, as it had all the qualities of a Porter, but they cheated me out of my Bourbon taste
A little disappointing, because as I was drinking my flight, I was really looking forward to this Bourbon Barrel Aged beer as they had bottles for sale, sadly the Bourbon was non-existent, it must have had evaporated while sitting there for me to drink!

On tap at brewery:
A nice, deep brown color with a fair light beige ring and hints of lacing left on the glass.
Overall, this beer is light. It hides its 8+% too well - I sort of what to get the bourbon in a BA beer and I’m not really getting much at all. I’m getting more barrel tang that’s leaning slightly towards tartness in both nose and taste. A lesser note of chocolate comes through in the nose with a deeper whiff and in the later taste with some warmth. Some barrel wood notes sneak through in the taste eventually, but not with much strength.
A rare big disappointment for me from this brewery. Still hoping they try again to use barrels with more success.
