Our take on a black lager. The Stallion packs a complex punch of specialty malts perfect for the season. Clean and crisp with a touch of chocolate rye and cherry wood smoke malt, which create a very unique and sessionable lager. Munich and Vienna malt help balance the more aggressive malts and even out this delicious winter lager.

On tap at brewery:
Pours darker and therefore thicker looking than expected - a nearing-black brown with a near medium tan head (lighter tan as it fades). Fair lacing.

Nose is moderately light, but cocoa, coffee, and a light char - like a heavy toast- come to mind as I sniff. Taste has a little more coffee and a lighter char, which comes forth later in the taste. Feel is a bit heavier than expected. There is a little edge to the rye and perhaps the smoked malt that when combined with the bolder roast notes takes this out of the realm of clean to me.

I just seem to be missing something from the lagering process that usually smooths out the edges I’m getting. Put another way, to me this drinks as much like a regular stout as a lager. It’s tasty but seems a bit off in style.
