The Scoville Sting we won gold with…, this complex strong ale has a bit of everything, aged in Markers Mark Barrels for 1 year. A beautiful deep russet color that holds complex layers of specialty malts to make this beer. Double roast crystal, a few varieties of crystal malt, and honey malt work together to balance the flavors. After aging, we added cinnamon and vanilla, with a Ghost Pepper for 48 hours. As the weather dips in temperature, the Ghost of Val will leave a lasting warmth.

On tap at brewery:
For a higher ABV, barrel-aged beer, the creamy beige head on this is impressive. The body is a deep brown, but bubbles near the glass wall can be seen oozing towards the surface.
Nose has a coconut bourbon barrel nose that pops. Behind that is a vegetal note from the peppers and the smallest earthy cinnamon-like note. Beer notes are slim on this, a toffee malt note mostly.
I can get the Scoville Sting base beer in the taste. This is a bit sweeter, and the bourbon adds to this in a way. Pepper is involved here, but not too spicy. Cinnamon that comes in the second half adds about as much spice. Bourbon strings through the whole taste. Late taste has a fruity pepper and a slight tingle after a few sips.
The more earthy/fruity ending is interesting and perhaps the most reminiscent of the base beer. The bourbon barrel is nice, but the base beer is a slightly odd choice, I think. The thicker feel seems off as well, not bad but just mismatched, in a way.
