Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a medium to dark ruddy orange with a quarter finger off-white head that dissipates to patches with light lacing. Aroma of caramel malt, mild bourbon, lemon citrus, faint stone fruit. Flavor is caramel malt, toffee, mild bourbon, light stone fruit and lemon faint hops in the finish with lingering, but mild aged hop bittreness. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. Drinking my can of Five the other night reminded I still had this bottle waiting and since I'm trying not to overage beer anymore, opened it tonight. There are reminders of the light fruit in Five, but everything has mellowed quite a bit. The hops have aged, but also are less assertive, which is fine. The fruit flavors have much more citrus character, but mostly fruit, not as much citrus acidity. For a hopped style like the American barleywines, this has aged quite gracefully and I enjoyed it quite a bit. I look forward to trying Future Primitive's next iteration fairly fresh, to see how the base tastes, I think I'll like it. This was the first time that an embedded string in the wax worked for me (they usually break or go awry); it opened the wax up perfectly to allow opening. Nicely done and looked great.
