exactly what i want in a berliner, tidy and dry and effervescent, but more than one dimensional on the ferment. this certainly seems lactic, but its also got some funk, not sure if the final ferment was with a saison strain to make it interesting, or if a little brett was introduced, but it certainly has more of a farmhouse vibe than a lot of these do, and i love the nuance that it adds, really what defines this one for me. a friend got a growler from the brewery and stashed it a week or two in the fridge, it was ready to be poured, fizzy and lively in this format, real pale yellow in the glass but not all the way clear, short white head on it lasts awhile before settling back. aroma and flavor featuring bright lemon tones, mellow herbal hoppiness, even a slight white wine and oak layer, although thats likely all from the fermenting agents. its not too sour to drink a ton of, and i love all the bubbles. i appreciate the low alcohol too, and as a super late night drinker after a long day, this absolutely hit the mark for me. another sort of out of the comfort zone style for these guys that they positively nailed, they really can do it all!
